Don C. Townsend

Don C. Townsend, devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the age of 83. Don was born May 14, 1934, in Marthaville, LA and was the fourth of ten children born to Olla Belle Mitchell Townsend and Jake Thomas Townsend. Leaving to cherish memories are his loving Wife - Linda Ruth Jackson; Sons – Thomas Andrew Townsend and wife Annie, Jonathan Charles Townsend; Daughters – Donna Smart and husband Randy, Terry Amos; Grandchildren – Thomas Andrew Townsend, Jr., Allie Grace Townsend, Lisette Guma (Hector), Heather Valenzuela (Roberto), Hepzibah Smart, Crystal Jordan, Baylen Payne; Brothers – James Townsend and wife Sue, Sylvester Townsend and wife Elaine, Harry Townsend and wife Pat; Sisters – Bonita Heffner, Effie Baily and husband Doug, Nellie Townsend; Great Grandchildren – Dylan Guma, Lorenzo Guma, Naomi Guma, Raphael Valenzuela, Santiago Valenzuela, Annayah Valenzuela, Harper Hulett, Savannah Hulett; Sisters-in-law – Ginger Guitrau, Paula Hobbs; Brothers-in-law – Charles Lewis Jackson and wife Brenda, Phillip Albert Jackson and wife Peggy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don is preceded in death by – Parents – Olla Belle Mitchell and Jake Thomas Townsend; Sister – Frankie Townsend Gardner; Brothers – Dewey Townsend, Larry Townsend; Brothers-in-law – John Elmon Hobbs, and Vernon Guitrau. Don was a veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country for six years. During his lifetime Don had several occupations some of which were police officer, sheriff’s deputy, private investigator, Commercial Driving Instructor at the Jumonville Campus of the Louisiana Technical College System. Don also served his community – Drainage District 5 Board Chairman; five years as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, and fourteen years as an Alderman for the Town/City of Walker. Don was involved in Cub Scout Pack 158 and Boy Scout Troup 158 in Walker having served as committee chair and in several other capacities. He also served Istrouma Area Council of BSA – Unit Commissioner, Scouting Coordinator, and Training Instructor for Webelos Den Leaders (OWLS training at Camp Avondale). Don supported BSA Troop 158 by serving as one of the chauffeurs to other boy scout camps in other states as well as to other outings whether it be to Canada or within the USA including two trips to Phimont. Don was a member of Walker United Methodist Church and supported the church in several capacities –Board of Trustees member and chair, Sunday School Teacher. He was a 50 plus year member of the 1396 Masonic Lodge in Longview, Texas having earned 32nd Degree Rank and 32nd Degree Shriner’s Rite in Tyler, TX. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM and at Walker United Methodist Church, 30167 Stump Street, on Thursday, August 3, 2017, beginning at 10:00 AM with a Celebration of Life and Resurrection Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Palmetto Cemetery on Burgess Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in his name. Remembrances may be left for the family at Seale Funeral Service, Inc.
