HOLDEN — A Baton Rouge man is in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a murder charge for the shooting of a Holden man on the morning of Nov. 12. 

James Smith III, 39, of 2688 Theodosia Drive, was arrested on a second-degree murder charge for the murder of Randy Favaron, 39. Smith was also charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

A verbal altercation led to a shooting, according to Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.

Favaron, who was shot in the torso, was taken an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Deputies responded to the call at the Lakeview Drive Home shortly after 10 a.m., Ard said

“We do know they were involved in a verbal argument before the shot was fired,” Ard said. “My detectives will continue to investigate this case.".
