LIVINGSTON – A single-vehicle crash that killed a Ponchatoula man early in the morning of Jan. 9 is under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

The crash on La. 42, east of La. 63 near Colyell, killed James B. Brunet, 42. The accident occurred around 11 p.m., according to Jared Sandifer, spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop A.

According to the initial investigation, the crash occurred as Brunet drove his 2013 Ford F-150 eastbound on La. 42.

“For unknown reasons, as Brunet entered into a right-hand curve, the Ford ran off the roadway to the right,” Sandifer said.

The vehicle became engulfed in flames after it veered off the roadway.

The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Brunet dead on the scene.

Due to extensive damage, seat belt usage was unable to be determined, Sandifer said.

Impairment is not yet known, but a toxicology sample was taken from Brunet to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
