Harry Brignac

LIVINGSTON – French Settlement Police Chief Harry S. Brignac was arrested Wednesday on three charges, including two felonies, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office website.

The felony charges included one count each of malfeasance in office and injuring public records.

He was also charged with one count of misdemeanor theft.

French Settlement Mayor Toni Guitreau confirmed that Brignac was arrested, but declined comment on the arrest. She said the LPSO handled the investigation.

She said the village would release more details soon.

Brignac, 69, is in his ninth term as police chief. He was ordered to step down in 2016 on ethics violations after he failed to file campaign finance reports for three years.

He paid a fine to the state Board of Ethics and won an election to fill the vacancy on his seat in 2017.
