Livingston Parish 4-H club members did more than just “horse around” this summer.

These 4-Hers competed against other club members from Louisiana’s southeast region at the District Horse Show in Amite, Louisiana, in June. They also went against other 4-H and FFA club members from across Louisiana and the southern United States at the Louisiana State Horse Show in Gonzales, Louisiana, and the Southern Regional Horse Show in Perry, Georgia, respectively.

At the Amite horse show June 27-28, Ashle’ Hudspeth walked away as the champion barrel racer and reserve champion in pole bending.

At the Gonzales horse show July 8-12, Amie Lobo and Malorie Langlois both earned first place in the horse public speaking contest and the horse judging contest, respectively. Langlois, Maelyn Sicard and Charlotte Streat teamed up to earn first place in the horse judging team category, while Abigale Lobo and Juliana Easley came together for a third place finish in the junior demonstration contest.

At the Perry horse show Aug. 1-4, Hudspeth and Amie Lobo both finished 10th in barrel racing and the horse public speaking contest, respectively. In the horse judging team category, Langlois, Sicard and Streat came together again for a 9th place finish. Joining Langlois, Sicard and Streat was Tristan Foret of Lafourche 4-H.
