“Chicory & Roux” book signing

A book signing and storytelling of Todd-Michael St. Pierre’s “Chicory & Roux” will be held at Cavalier House Books in the Denham Springs Antique Village from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The creators of “Chicory & Roux” are coming to Cavalier House Books.

The book store will host a book signing and storytelling session featuring children’s author Todd-Michael St. Pierre, illustrator Lee Brandt Randall and musician David Randall from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

A lively 30-minute storytelling session — featuring Mrs. Randall’s elaborate puppets and two original songs performed by Mr. Randall — will kick off the event, followed by a book signing of the popular children’s tale.

“Chicory & Roux” follows the story of sophisticated city mouse Chicory, who never imagined she would venture beyond her elegant Creole home in New Orleans — that is, until she falls asleep in a picnic basket and wakes up in the Cajun swamps.

There, Chicory meets simple country mouse Roux, and together they experience the bucolic bayou life. Chicory persuades Roux to see what the city has to offer, and they journey to New Orleans for a taste of Creole culture.

The story includes idyllic picnics, lavish white-linen luncheons, whimsical illustrations and two original songs in a southern retelling of Aesop’s classic fable.

St. Pierre, a New Orleans native, is the author of several cookbooks and children’s books. He was a judge for The Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest and is a dedicated gardener and cat lover.

Lee Brandt Randall has a degree in printmaking from LSU and works in graphic design, film animation, and book illustration and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Cavalier House Books is located at 100 N. Range Avenue in the Denham Springs Antique Village.
