The Arts Council of Livingston Parish is calling for local artists to prepare original art for exhibition and possible inclusion in an upcoming coffee-table style book entitled, “Preserving the Culture of Livingston Parish.” Artwork can be submitted starting Saturday, Sept. 1, and the deadline for all submissions is Friday, Nov. 30. Local artists will have extra time to complete work for an upcoming book celebrating life in the parish.

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish has extended its submission deadline for “Preserving the Culture of Livingston Parish,” a book that will give readers a history of the villages, towns, and cities in the parish while also highlighting the work of local artists.

Originally slated for late October, the Arts Council has pushed its call for entries deadline back to Friday, Nov. 30, ACLP Treasurer Judye Averette said.

Former and current residents of Livingston Parish are invited to submit their original traditional and contemporary art for possible exhibition and publication in a coffee-table style book, the first of its kind for the Arts Council.

The book will include stories relevant to each area, with photographs and artwork of the first established business and churches, as well as area rivers, railroads, natural landscapes and wildlife.

Submitted artwork should be “inspired by life in Livingston Parish,” Averette said. Contemporary or traditional painting, photography, fiber art, woodworking and sculpting are all accepted mediums for the book. Only current and former residents of the parish are allowed to submit pieces.

Artists can turn in up to three pieces each. For ACLP members, fees will be $15 for the first entry and $10 apiece for the remaining two. For non-ACLP members, the price is $20 for the first submission and $15 apiece for the last two.

In order to submit pieces, artists must create a free account on CaFÉ (, an online application and adjudication system for managing calls for entry, and submit them through the website.

Once the submissions are in, a jury of certified artists will select which entries will be included in the book. The Arts Council is hoping for a November 2019 release date.
