Marie Jeanne Baum Wesley celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Born to Marguerite and Abraham Joseph Baum on Oct. 14, 1918, in Pointe Coupee Parish, Jeanne was the eighth of nine children.
At age 4, Jeanne and her family moved to the small town of Ventress, Louisiana, where she’d spend her formative years. She later attended and graduated from Poydras High School in New Roads before moving to Baton Rouge for work.
In Baton Rouge, Jeanne would meet her future husband, Pershing Lamont Wesley. The couple married on May 3, 1941, and had two sons: Paul and Daniel.
More than 77 years since her marriage to Pershing, Jeanne is the loving grandmother of Jonathan, Jason, Kathryn, Rosalie, Erica and Megan. She also has eight great-grandchildren.
State Rep. J. Rogers Pope, R-Denham Springs, presented Jeanne “An Expression of Commendation” certificate for reaching the milestone.
