With the summer here and the 2017-18 school year already visible on the horizon, The Livingston Parish News wants to remind and urge area coaches that we continue to need your help to get your results online and in print in as timely a manner as possible.

As The News forges full-speed ahead and transition into a dual role as your most reliable daily digital resource online to go with being your locally printed newspaper, we need coaches (or parents) to update us on a daily (and nightly) basis about how your team is doing.

As much as we’d love to be at every event, that isn’t possible, so to get news out about your team, we need your assistance.

Baton Rouge Seminoles 10U team looking for players for 2018

The Baton Rouge Seminoles are adding a 10U USSSA baseball team for the 2018 season and will host initial tryouts in early June.

Players based in Livingston Parish/Baton Rouge/Ascension Parish are welcome to try out for a team that will begin as Double-A and play tournaments around the quad-parish area with a few longer weekend trips, including a state tournament and world series at the end of the season.

Players cannot turn 10 before April 30, 2018.

Youth golf: Louisiana State Games

USSSA Junior Golf will host the Louisiana State Games June 10-11 at Calvert Crossing GC, Calhoun (West Monroe).

Boys and girls ages 12-18 will play 36 holes (18 per day), while ages 9-11 will play 18 holes (9 holes per day). Tournaments will be divided into 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18. 

The entry fee for is $170 for ages 12-18, $100 for 9-11. The deadline to enter is 10 p.m. on June 7.

All golfers must be USSSA Registered, which is free. All players will receive tee gifts at check in, including a tournament T-shirt.

Winning participants will qualify for the National State Games.

AJBT Bayou Oaks

Junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the AJGT Bayou Oaks at City Park in New Orleans June 27-28.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and hosted by the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour. 

The tournament entry fee is $230 and includes two days of green fees, tee gifts, and trophies in four age divisions.

DSHS Hall of Fame videos for sale

For a limited time, the Denham Springs Athletic Association will make available to the public copies of the DVD video of the DSHS Athletic Hall of Fame banquet held at Forrest Grove.

Included with the video is a 30-minute segment of nostalgic action photographs of numerous Yellow Jacket athletes and coaches covering a variety of sports and many decades of DSHS athletics. Please call Jim Spring at (225) 588-0366 to order. Price is $10.

DSHS seeks Jacket football history

Denham Springs High School is establishing a complete history of the Yellow Jacket football program, focusing especially on the early years from 1930-1975. Local supporter Kirk Smart has designed a new website ( dedicated to DSHS football. He is seeking public support for any newspaper articles, old photographs, team pictures, old programs, season records and scores, and statistics from this era. PARDS T-box available

The PARDS driving range has a grass T-box located behind the main baseball stadium that is open from noon until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on weekends.
