SOFTBALL | Big inning lifts Doyle over Albany

ALBANY -- Doyle snapped a 1-1 tie with a five-run 4th inning to key a 7-4 win over Albany on Saturday.

Doyle added a run in the fifth before Albany scored three in the bottom of the inning.

Olivia Welda gave up 10 hits and struck out four in a complete game-effort to get the win. Annalea Giamalva gave up 10 hits and seven runs in four innings for Albany, while Brittney Turner struck out four without giving up a hit in three innings of relief.

Caitlinn Fruge went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead Doyle, while Kamyrn Spears and Madison Watts each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Welda and Kaitlyn Savant each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Kaci Payne went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Giamalva went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs to lead Albany.

Also Saturday, St. Thomas Aquinas rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth in a 7-4 win over Albany.

Albany led 4-3 after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

Heather Degenhart went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored to lead Albany, while Giamalva went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Abby Spring went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
