Southeastern Louisiana righthander Mac Sceroler, a former star at Denham Springs High, was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Sceroler struck out a career-high 12 batters Thursday on the way to a 7-0 shutout against Northwestern State.

The junior fanned a pair of batters each in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. After walking the leadoff hitter in the 4th, Sceroler retired the next 14 batters he faced.

A two-out walk and single snapped the string, putting runners on the corners in the 8th, but Sceroler caught Northwestern State shortstop Caleb Ricca looking for his third strikeout of the inning and final strikeout of the game.

Sceroler upped his record to 6-1 after allowing just two hits and a pair of walks in 8 innings of work.

The Lions are back in action this weekend against Nicholls State, with the Friday and Sunday games in Thibodaux (6 p.m. and 1 p.m.) and the middle game in Hammond (2 p.m.).
