BASEBALL | Ponchatoula pushes past Albany with three-run 4th

ALBANY -- Ponchatoula's Basiel Williams had a two-run single in a three-run 4th to snap a 4-4 tie and lift the Green Wave to an 8-6 win over Albany on Saturday.

Ponchatoula added a run in the 7th to go up 8-4 before Albany scrapped for two runs in the bottom of the inning as Brett Davis scored on Joey Smith's sacrifice fly and Tyler Allbritton scored on a dropped third strike.

Brock Bennett's two-run double put the Hornets up 2-1 in the 2nd, but Ponchatoula picked up three runs in the 3rd on Williams' two-run triple and Cameron Stewart's RBI grounder to claim a 4-2 lead.

Williams went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Green Wave, which had 10 hits.

Smith's two-run single in the bottom of the 3rd knotted it at 4-4.

Bennett went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Smith was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, Davis was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Allbritton was 2-for-4 with two runs scored as Albany had nine hits.
