INDEPENDENCE -- Albany scored an 11-8 win over Independence on April 13 to set up a crucial doubleheader with Amite on Tuesday.

Against Independence, Joey Smith was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs to lead the Hornets, Kyle Newman was 3-for-4 with a double, and Brett Davis had two doubles.

Tyler Allbritton threw 5 innings and had a pair of hits and Micah Cleveland threw two shutout innings.

Albany hosts Amite on Tuesday in a doubleheader at 4:45 p.m. The two-game set was originally scheduled at Amite, but the Warriors' field was flooded during Monday's thunderstorms.

Albany coach Gabe Woods said a doubleheader sweep of the Warriors would give the Hornets the District 7-3A title, and a split would mean Albany and Sumner would share the district title.
