GREENSBURG – A Holden man was one of three people killed in a two-vehicle crash March 24 in St. Helena Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Michael A. Barron, 32, of Holden, and Goslynee Hitchen, 27, and her daughter, 3-month-old Mason Hitchen, died in the crash on La. 10 about two miles west of Greensburg, said State Trooper Dustin Dwight, public information officer with Troop L.
Barron was driving a 1992 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on La. 10, when, for reasons still under investigation, he crossed into the westbound lane, Dwight said.
As Barron approached a hillcrest, his vehicle hit 2012 Honda Accord head-on driven by Hitchen, the state trooper said.
The St. Helena Parish coroner pronounced all three dead at the scene.
Two juvenile passengers in Hitchen’s vehicle sustained moderate injuries in the crash and were transported to St. Helena Parish Hospital by ambulance, Dwight said.
Troopers determined Mason Hitchen was in an approved child restraint system at the time of the crash, Dwight said, but due to rescue efforts, troopers couldn’t determine if the restraint system was installed correctly.
The remaining occupants were all unrestrained at the time of the crash.
Blood samples were obtained from both drivers and sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, the state trooper said.
