Deadlines set for voter registration, absentee voting

The upcoming primary election is Saturday, Oct. 14. The general election is Saturday, Nov. 18, according to the Secretary of State’s Office website.

There are deadlines to register to vote and to request an absentee by mail ballot, the website said.

The last day to register to vote in person or by mail for the primary election is Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The last day to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System for the primary is Saturday, Sept. 23.

The last day to request an absentee by mail ballot for the primary is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, early voting for the Oct. 14 primary election is from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, through Saturday, Oct. 7, except Sunday, Oct. 1.

The last day to register to vote in person or by mail for the general election is Oct. 18.

The last day to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System for the general election is Oct. 28.

The last day to request an absentee by mail ballot for the general election is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14. 

Voters can request an absentee-by-mail ballot online through the secretary of state’s website Voter Portal or in writing through their parish registrar of voters office.

Early voting for the Nov. 18 general election is from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, through Saturday, Nov. 11, except Sunday, Nov. 5, and Veterans Day, Nov. 10.
