FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- Police in French Settlement are keeping a closer eye on campaign signs after they noticed several of them had been damaged, stolen or defaced earlier this week.

Assistant Police Chief Lawrence Callendar said the damage and removal of signs for two police chief candidates – Jeff Allen and Waylon Stafford – occurred in the late evening of March 13 or early hours of March 14.

Arnod and Stafford are in a race along with former chief Harry Brignac in the March 25 primary.

“We will enhance our surveillance and patrols on the remaining signs of all candidates,” he said.

The signs were placed along roadways on La. 16.

Anyone who witnessed the damaging of the signs is asked to call the French Settlement Police Department at (225) 698-6100.
