A Livingston Parish educator was selected as the Ag in the Classroom Elementary Teacher of the Year for Louisiana.

Karen Kelley Parrino, a reading specialist and kindergarten teacher at North Live Oak Elementary, recently received this honor.

The purpose of the award is to recognize an outstanding teacher for her efforts and achievements with integrating agriculture across the curriculum.

In June, Parrino will receive an expense-paid trip to the National Ag in the Classroom Conference to Kansas City, Missouri. She will also receive an iPad and a $500 cash award.

Parrino loves integrating across the curriculum and states that it keeps her students motivated and engaged while developing problem solving and critical thinking skills with real world applications.
