Livingston Parish honors top Students of the Year

LIVINGSTON -- The Livingston Parish School Board and Superintendent Rick Wentzel recognized students named by their respective schools as Student of the Year. A reception was held Thursday, May 4, for the students honored in grades five, eight and 12, as well as the school system’s overall three Students of the Year.

The 2017 Students of the Year who advance to the regional competition, are Daniel “Carson” Lusker-Whitten, a fifth-grader at Eastside Elementary; Hailey Enamorado, an eighth-grader at Denham Springs Junior High; and Eric Forbes, a senior at Holden High School.

“I’m continually amazed at the caliber of students we continue to turn out in Livingston Parish Schools.” Superintendent Rick Wentzel said.

“Each year," Wentzel continued, "our Student of the Year winners seem to raise the bar for academic excellence and community involvement. This year’s list of winners is no different.

"This is a tremendous tribute to their parents and our schools for fostering and nurturing such talent.”

Forbes will enter LSU this fall with 60 credit hours and a 31 on his ACT. He is graduating with a 4.0 GPA and is a Bible scholar. Enamorado has a 4.0 GPA and is president of her school’s honor society. She created Hailey’s Heroes fundraiser for veterans and spoke at the Baton Rouge Fallen Officers Memorial. Lusker-Whitten has a 4.0 GPA and is active in Cub Scouts. He recently helped to raise more than $60,000 for children with heart disease.

Students of the year named by their respective schools include: Twelfth grade: Isabella Kreko, Albany High; Cameron Crochet, Denham Springs High; April Sigrest, Doyle High; Eric Forbes, Holden High; Deanna Luneau, Live Oak High; Victoria Bovia, Maurepas; Shelby Chandler, Springfield High; and Dean Dante, Walker High.

Eighth grade: Emma Miranda, Albany Middle; Hailey Enamorado, Denham Springs Junior High; Jessica Jemison, Doyle; Saber Bankson, French Settlement; Rylee Lambert, Frost; Olivia Barnes, Holden.

Also, Victoria Germany, Juban Parc Junior High; Sadie Forbes, Live Oak Middle; Logan Fos-Brown, Maurepas; Madeline Watson, North Corbin Junior High; Luke Turner, Southside Junior High; and Russell Egnew, Springfield Middle.
