Q: Can I check out a tablet from the library?

A: If you’re planning to travel over the upcoming holidays, the library has a variety of portable electronic resources that are free and perfect to take on a trip.

We carry a unique product called Launchpad. These are tablets with apps already installed. This means you don’t have to worry about downloading or updating anything, just turn it on and you’re ready to go. Each Launchpad is checked out with its own charger. The Launchpads are categorized by age range and have five to ten activities pre-installed such as games, puzzles, memory exercises, and spelling or math activities. Launchpads are great for kids to use in the car or while waiting somewhere.

Recently, the library began carrying Launchpads for teens and adults. Like the Launchpads for kids, these come with all activities pre-installed. Some of the topics covered include learning languages, unwinding games, and memory activities. The Launchpads for teens cover topics like trigonometry, brain games, and trivia.

Besides our Launchpads, the library has many digital resources available to you, for free. All you need is your library card. If you have your own tablet or smartphone, you can access our collection of eAudio and eBooks and check them out directly to your device. We also carry portable mp3 players with pre-loaded audiobooks called Playaways and portable video players called Playaway Views. At our Denham Springs-Walker and Albany-Springfield branches, you can check out eReaders with up to five eBooks of your choice.

Stop by your branch of the Livingston Parish Library to check out these items. Remember, if you ever need help with technology, you can book a one-on-one appointment through our Book-a-Librarian service.
